Waiting for the storm

This was my last picture of the year 2009

A rainy day didn't stop me from getting out and looking for a nice picture. When I got this place it was raining a lot, but suddenly it stopped so I decided to get around and see if something inspired me. I found several sunk trunks in the water and along with the stormy clouds they made for a perfect B&W picture, at least in my mind.

I needed to smooth the water, so a 3-stop ND filter was necessary and to balance water and sky luminosity I needed a 2-stop GND filter. The rest was a matter of choosing the right frame for the picture.

Minutes after of taking this shot, it started to rain again and I was forced to pack and go back to the car.

BTW, this picture was made in Madrid, Spain in one of the several dams we have in the north part the region.

C&C are more than welcome (as always, ;-)).

I take the opportunity to wish you a Very Happy New Year !!

Canon 5D2, 24-105, 3-stop ND, 2-stop GND, polarizer, tripod.

Pilings make such a great subject matter. Just like here!

Nice job. :toast:

Ominous and beautiful at the same time.
Your technique at capturing this worked very well, and I love the slightly toned (?) b&w treatment.

Very nice atmosphere. The effect of the long (I guess) exposure on the water is great.

I like the metallic tons of the water and of the whole image... And very evocative, very essential.

Very nice image and B&W definitely the right call. I'd crop a bit of the water off the bottom just above you signature

Very brooding.... I like the sharp points on the wood pilings as a focal point and echo of the foreboding nature of this shot.

I love the tension between the angry sky and the perfectly still water and pilings.

Very dramatic and well-conceived, Enrique. The B&W treatment adds a lot of drama.

This is a very moody image. The texture of the sky contrasts very nicely with the smooth water surface.
