Tides of the Ancient

This was my second visit to this rather famous coastal location. I have visited few places along the Pacific that have such a spectacular group of rocks and wave action. I can't wait to return.

I used basic processing here, curves to bring out the rocks (which were not as strongly lit as I had hoped) and wave action, and some color correction for the highlights.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions!

Oh, well and expertly seen indeed! Nothing overwhelming, but everything done right. I especially like the water, which looks like water and not featureless fog. One nit only—how about the exposure info?

I think this is an outstanding image. Excellent exposure control, wonderful light and color. The comp, moment and detail are also well done.

Cory,
Great shot and very well handled exposure! Love the light, colour and depth of the stacks in the distance. Great shot!

A glorious spectacle well presented. What I would give to see surf like this on the coasts close to home more than once or twice a year (or less). I think your choice of format also allows for a nice balance in the photo.

Too bad you didn't get a good sunset, Cory.

Outstanding image. Very well composed, perfect shutter speed to capture the wave action and that sky is insanely attractive. Nice work!

Great sky and wave action. I like that the ocean is the dominating element in the right half of the scene. I hope you made it off the rock ok.

Really interesting image with great color and motion. A little bit fenced in by the foreground rocks, a bit of a crop on the bottom would solve that. Great work.

Wick, this is at Seal Rock State Wayside, just south of Newport, Oregon. These rocks have appeared on NPN many many times. Check out Marc Adamus' work there...it is simply stunning. Well worth the visit!

Jose, I can see that comp working too. I left this crop for two reasons, one because I like the detail in the fg shell-covered rock, and two because of the dark/light balance they provide with the sky. Thanks for the feedback!

Love the wave action and colors here. Would have loved to see the larger image. I think the rock detail may have suffered a little bit from compression or oversharpening.

Great shot!
