Winter reflections

There are so many interesting locations in and around Scotland not only for nature but for great landscape. This is often an area that is overlooked for landscapes...and is the only time I have seen a reflection in these conditions. This is my first post to the ESS.

Ian,

What a grand entrance to the ES&S Gallery! There must be something with Ian's and Scotland... and actually a seemingly growing number of beautiful images from this land that are making many of us want to visit this place.

This is fantastic! Great drama in the clouds and weather and quite the reflection. Actually, I would love to see more of the reflection, but I'm guessing you probably do have just a couple other comps....

This would even work great as an even more pronounced pano by cropping maybe 1/3 of the sky? But also, the scene is so dynamic and beautiful that you could carve this one up many different ways and still have a winner.

So welcome aboard to NPN! We look forward to more images and want to thank you for your comments posted already. Folks certainly appreciate the feedback and participation.

Cheers!

Lon

That's gorgeous Ian very very Scottish, bleak slightly forbidding yet utterly compelling, well done.

Nice, serene shot. Horizon is well placed. The interplay of clouds, partial direct light and reflections make the image interesting.

Fantastically moody landscape Ian. I like the light on the top of the mountains especially. Beautiful work!

Wow,

What an amazing first post! The warm light over the white snow and the simple but effective composition really elevate this image to a work of art.

Welcome, Ian :wavey: The light and reflections are quite dramatic and the light accentuates the shapes. My preference would be toward opening up the mid-tones a bit as the image feels a bit gray.

I love the mood! The subtle colors and tones work so well with the snow and clouds amongst the landscape.

Welcome and what an image! I visited Scotland so I know how beautiful this country is. But getting these conditions is great.

This is great... very dramatic... As Tony says "opening up the mid-tones a bit as the image feels a bit gray" :toast:

Wonderful mood and subtle tones goes well with calm water. I would of like to see a little more water but that is my preference ( I live in the desert!). Well done.

Fantastic light and colors, the panoramic crop is perfect. My only nit: the reflection is a wee bit too bright for my taste. In-camera work or not, it looks just a bit artificial

Really interesting photo Ian. The colors are really interesting, its obvious that this is a color photograph but it has a monochrom feeling as well.

You know the expression "God's Country". It must refer to Scotland. Beautiful shot Ian. Great name too. I named my son Ian.

Thanks all for making me so welcome. Will look into raising the midtones...looks like I have a bit of research to do. Out of interest it makes a stunning b&w shot as my friend took it on his 8x10 and it looks smashing.
