Nice low perspective Martin.
Reminds me of a Famous Grouse Scotch Whisky advert!

Wonderful shot - love the soft light. I think you could/should sell this to the famous whisky brewers!

Very nice image Martin, now I'm sorry I couldn't join Peter (that very strange Dutch bloke you've met )
If I could make a suggestion; crop a bit from the left and bottom, setting the bird off-center and minimize the OOF foreground.

Thanks for the suggestions Bart, yes it would have been nice to meet you, hopefully there'll be other times. I had a good time with Peter -except for the wasps at lunch
Thanks to everyone else who commented.

Hi Martin,
Wonderful in every way. How in the world did you get so close to this guy?

Wow, a beauty! Lying on the ground was key, and f8 was just right on DOF. Were you already there waiting for him? I'm guessing that from shooting zoomed only halfway out.

Bruce, Tom, he was a bit of a rogue male. Instead of running he was chasing. He was at 5.8m when I took this but he kept advancing until he was inside minimum focus distance. The more I backed off, the more he followed. He was fantastic, the really sad thing is that he may be no more now as today is the 'Glorious 12th' - first day of the Grouse shooting season. Hopefully he'll survive. I'll check out his 'patch' next time I go there. Thanks for commenting.
Martin.
