Can't tell if this works, I've fixed the exposure and lighting some since the sun was too bright on the snow, any comments would be helpfull.

Taken at Stony Brook, Norkfolk MA. Nikon D40, 70-300mm at 250mm, F6.3 at 1/2500s, ISO 200.

Jillian: Welcome to NPN and to the finest Flora gallery on the planet. This does work for me. I think you handled the exposure well and I really like the shadows. Nicely seen and captured. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more. >=))>

I struggled with snow covered shots when I first got my SLR camera, compared to other camera's I've used. What I read and also found it to work for me when photographing snow is to brighten the exposure. Your exposure time here is pretty fast so if you slowed it down a little it would allow more light in and brighten up the snow. Careful not to go to much or you'll over expose the snow and lose detail. Practice this a little and maybe it will work for you, it did for me.

Nice intimate image. IMO the snow should be whiter - which can be easily fixed in selective color.

Hard to expose the snow in harsh light Jillian, but you did well. Almost looks like sand on a beach. Welcome to Flora, and look forward to future posts. Good job :toast:

I like this Jillian. I think ideally for me the shot would have the plant place more towards the bottom of the image but that's pretty subjective. I use Ligthroom II and would probably make the snow a little whiter using color placement with a gradient filter. Looks like the good news is that you didn't lose any detail by overexposing the shot. Welcome to the gallery. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

I like snow images of this kind. Very simple. May be a touch to yellow.
