Red Grouse feeding

Red Grouse feeding in a hawthorn tree in the Lammermuir Hills, Scottish Borders, UK.

With a very heavy (for us) snow fall, the grouse were taking to the trees to feed. An unusual site here.

Very interesting image, and extremely effective composition! (and good pose of the grouse). I prefer the wider FOV of the larger version.

A very nice feeding Grouse shot Rob, maybe a little tight around the bird in the small version. The larger version gives him more room I see, but I'd like more space still at the bottom.
I feel for you with all the snow you and my family in the Uk are getting. Welcome to my world. We get several months of that nasty white stuff in Saskatchewan :toast:

I really like this one Ron. The bird has a painting-like feel with lovely feather detail and, as you say, an unusual pose. Personally I think the 'full-in-the-frame' approach you've adopted works very well :toast:

A great pose, Ron. I like your choice of dof, and the detail is great in the plumage. :toast: :toast:

Excellent shot, I really like the pose of the bird with the head beneath the body. On my monitor it looks like the shadows were pulled out a bit too much for my tastes, but my monitor seems to be crapping out on me recently so take that with a grain of salt
