Gray Wolf

I shot this in Yellowstone Park in October, 2009. The wolf was in the Canyon area. I was very fortunate to see it on the road, and took the photo off a bean bag on the car window.

Beautiful image of this Wolf. The eyes really make the image. I'd try adding a touch of canvas, just to give the feet a little more room.

Love it Dan, very sharp. Last May I was lucky enough to see the Druid Pack cross the road near Lamar Valley, but I've yet to get a shot as great as this of a Yellowstone Wolf. :toast:

This is a great image Dan. A minor nit on my monitor is that the wolf seems a bit over sharpened. :toast:

Wonderful shot Dan! Four trips to YNP, dozens of wolf sightings and I've yet to get one even remotely as good as this. The lighting is wonderful and the look in her eyes is perfect. I would agree that a bit more canvas at the bottom would make an already great image just a bit better but that's minor. Congrats on a great shot.

Wonderful image. Great stare. I don't see any oversharpening here. I would prefer a slightly larger crop.

Hi Dan,

I really like the light here, and the very intense stare of the wolf. To my eye the dark background really helps the wolf stand out and strengthens the image. On my monitor the image does look just a tad over-sharpened and - on the personal preference side of things - I think I'd like a slightly looser crop. In a perfect world it would have been great if the wolf was standing on something other than a road (i.e., something more natural), but obviously nothing you could do about this...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Excellent detail, nice low angle and lovely lighting here Dan. I do not think it is very evident that the wolf is on a road as it is covered in snow. I do wish for a bit more room at the bottom though.

Excellent photo Dan, man you got close to this guy! When I've seen them they've been miles away! Nice light too. I might try to darken some of the bright spots in the top right.

Lovely Wolf image, the eyes are indeed fabulous! Agree with Vincent about a tad more room on the bottom, but that really is a very minor nit here. Superb image!

Given the size of the wolf in the frame I suspect you are full frame and unable to pull back just a little, but if this is a crop I would suggest some additional room for breathing space and inclusion of environment. Exposure looks good to me in the large edition (in the small the processing shows up as slightly crispy.) You did a fine job with exposing the shadow side and maintaining the edge of rim lighting. Good work.

A wonderful shot with the dark background to make the wolf stand out even more. Excellent detail and sharpness. A little more room at the bottom would of made it perfect but a great shot none the less, a pleasure to view, way to go.
