Hillside Buck

This is another of my low light shots. I am looking for help on color correction without incuring noise. Not much was done to this picture other than a little saturation and a little sharpening. Please give me comments on what you see and the needed correction.

Thanks for looking at my picture and for any comments.

You find and capture the most incredible poses from buck and bull elk. This one is just another. Color is good in this post. I might crop a bit from the left to get rid of the fringes of that tree.

I like this picture much better than the other, it looks very natural and the composition is very pleasant (I especially like the tall grass in front of the buck). I agree on cropping away the tree branches on the left. As a minor nit, it seems to me that there is a slight green cast and there is some noise visible on the fur of the buck, especially in the larger version...

Great Buck Jack!!! It does look yellow-greenish to me. Perhaps you could try using the color balance sliders toward the magenta or red, slight adjustments go a long way sometimes.

Thanks everyone for the compliments and for the help. I hope this post is better. I am learning a lot on what to look for in a picture and what to do in PP.

Great pose indeed Jack. The repost looks a lot better IMO, but I must add that I am not viewing this on a calibrated monitor.

If I could find bucks like this, I would be so happy that I not worry so much about the colors -- just fix that in post-processing. Second version sure looks better on my monitor, but you may also want to close your eyes and try to recall the details of the light as you saw it, and then take your processing from there, striving for either exactly reproducing your memory of the scene, or embellishing it a bit. The second version looks a bit "cool" which is fine if that's what you want to portray. A bit more brightness and warmth could give it more of a "sunset" feel, but this one looks perfect as a scene in the cooler late-day shadows.
