Forest Roots

A huge cedar root crossing over a downed log. Great light for winter forest; bright enough to bring some variety to the greens, but not so bright as to cast shadows.
Canon 50D
EF24-70mm f/2.8L USM
!SO 200
f/16 @ 10s.
Suggestions for improvement always appreciated

These colors feel almost tropical. The scene seems a bit complex, but it's fun exploring all the different elements.

The purples and reds in that root are very intriguing, and contrast wonderfully with all the moss - did you get any close ups of that patch?

Beautiful greens and contrasting reds. Really like the curve of the cedar root, really carries the composition through. Hard to isolate compositions in these forests but this works very well in my opinion. Well done.

Nice job Stephen! You've captured one of my favorite subjects. I never get tired of the NW forest.

Wonderful composition, however the greens on top looks a bit strong but it's a minor observation.

My eye is drawn strongly to the upper bare patch of root, and the mosses surrounding it. That area creates a good focal point, but unfortunately for me the rest of the image doesn't hold my attention for too long. I think the light suits the subject well, but a little more compositional exploring may have resulted in a more refined and focused image.

What a pretty little intimate scene, beautiful color, and love the moss covered limb. Beautifully presented Stephen.

The purple and red here is really unique What draws me in though is the appearance of crossed knees!

This is nice and refreshing. Maybe the only nit is that I would have loved to see something more "precise" in the place where the diagonal converges. The diagonal is so strong than the eye is led and then nothing really particular and identified is found. A flower, a fungus, a bird or something like that? The image works as it is already, but just a thought out loud.

Stephen: I'm pretty late to this party but I like this a lot. Marvelous colors brought out by the perfect lighting. Consider posting some similar shots in Flora. If it grows, it goes is our motto. Nicely done.>=))>
