Rainy Day Blossom

Hi Everyone,
I know it's been months since my last post. I had a run in with a bad bout of tendonitis in my wrist at the end of last year and pretty much had to just stop all my photography and let it rest and heal. It seems much better now and I'm happy for spring to get here and I can get back in the groove.
I found these at the store the other night and thought I'd enjoy their cheerfulness during these long dreary months. Couldn't keep from capturing a few photos of them today as they sat in the window, trying out some new equipment.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year and I am looking forward to more posts. Waiting to get a new lens out of lay-a-way, but until then, this will have to do.
T1i 42mm,F/5.6,1/5s,ISO 100,
Sht. pr., circ. pol., Tripod, wireless remote release
Some crop for comp, minm. cloning out of bright spots on the leaves.
Not real happy with the bright ulc, but overall I liked it well enough.

The bright corner is easily fixed, Mary. Question—why shutter priority, and why the polarizer? Could you have left off the polarizer and gotten a little more dof? Or even gone up with the ISO. I like the composition and the color on this, and the rainy window glass makes a nice, neutral background.

Thanks Philip! When I was shooting this today, I was trying all the different modes, shr, manl, apt. all of them. I just liked the way this one looked. I guess, I might not shoot conventionally, I fly by the seat of my pants at times.
I usually just leave the polarizer on to protect my lens, since I tend to get a little too close sometimes and have scratched my lens of my other camera in the past. This being a new purchase, I put it on immediately after taking out of the box and had planned on just leaving it on.

Very nice to see you posting again, Mary - had wondered where you have been ! Nice composition which works well for me with the unusual bg, and the petals are beautifully lit.

Great idea for a winter flora shot, Mary. Love the bg of the rained-on window. The front flower looks a little soft, but overall it's a very pleasing winter antidote.

I am sorry to hear about your bout with tendonitis, but happy to see you posting again. I like the colo against the BG. Would be very nice to see on flower isolated with that BG also

I've missed your posts Mary. Glad to see you posting again and I hope the tendonitis leaves you alone. I like everything about the image except the upper corner you've already mentioned and you could pretty readily clone that out. Love the bg and the creativity in the shot.

Mary: Tried to comment on this last night and it seems the NPN server went down. Now I have to remember what I said  . Actually I think your use of the polarizer was probably a net plus. Most folks don't think about the glare that will sometimes show up on petals even in muted light. Since you didn't have any subject movement issues to contend with I think you did good. I certainly like the colors and the BG. Great to have you back and looking forward to more. >=))>
