Forest and Fog

This forest in the Olympic NF of Washington is made up of mostly hemlocks with a few douglas firs and cedars scattered about. Waited for a foggy day to make this image of these trees this past July. Hope it looks okay without any odd color casts.

I really like the composition; there's something to see in every part of the scene, and it feels perfectly balanced. Very nice work.

I like this a lot Vance. Hemlocks, firs, cedars and fog and perfect composition IMO. I can see why you waited for the fog for this shot. This is the kind of image I'm drawn to. Nice Work.

The light fog is creating lovely seperation between the browns and greens. Great composition showing the older and newer trees together in the same field of view.

Makes me feel right at home. The big Hemlocks and young Cedar counter-balance each other nicely. Wouldn't change a thing.

Oh, it looks WAY better than "OK." The depth and comp with the strong verticals are great. Your point-of-view is beautiful. (Makes me feel like climbing a tree. I used to do that a lot.)

It's simply one of the best forest photos i've seen in a while, and i'm not prone to exaggerate. Amazing volume.

This is quite nice! The fine detail in the front trunks works so effectively with the soft mysterious background. Excellent!

Vance,

This is excellent! What is most interesting to me is the visual contrast between the clarity and detail of the main, forward trunks and the foggy, misty atmosphere of the background. Great job with the comp - which is usually quite a challenge with these vertical subjects.

My only suggestions - and no one else mentioned so maybe it's just me and my monitor.... but I detect a little magenta in the darkest shadows, mostly in the lower right in the secondary trunk. I haven't looked at it with PS, so I could be off, but thought I would toss that out there. Otherwise, the color of the fog and rest of the scene look great to me.

Good eye and capture.

Seems like some funny color often creeps into the blacks somehow. It's barely noticeable in the main image, and I find it easy to disregard. I don't know if the repeated pairings was a conscious part of the composition, but I see it/like it. The whole composition is elegantly done. Most of the colors look perfect.

no problem with colour to my eye and monitor. very nice scene. made more remarkable by the fact theat there cannot have been a breath of air with no movement over 16s!

good work!
