I found a number of these, often several feet high, on vegetation in the vicinity of the small pond I hand dug last year. Lots of tadpoles in the pond too.

My favorite species of frog in the NE, I found some that had just exited their tadpole stage and had a wonderful time photographing them. I really like the habitat, sharpness and DOF

Thanks, Luke. These guys are great. But so small, about thumbnail size, and well camouflaged at this stage that they're easy to miss. I found this one on the ground next to the pond in very short vegetation and it "disappeared" whenever I looked away for a moment.

Very nice subject. Have you tried a closer composition (or crop) removing the lower part of the tree?
It is quite nice as it is.

I guess it either adds some three-dimentionality and helps frame the frog, or serves as a visual distraction depending on how you look at it. This one is kind of a field guide photo, I think. Anyway, I want to give him (or her) some room. It was a little upset with me. It was resting comfortably on the leaf until I disturbed it.
