Alone in the Wilderness

For several peaceful moments it seemed as though this hoary marmot and I were completely alone. The silence was broken by the sharp whistle of another marmot, signalling to this one the approach of a raptor.

It was a wonderful afternoon.

Hoary marmot - Marmota caligata Photographed near Mount Rainier, WA.

I appreciate your comments and thanks for viewing.

I also like the pose you caught. I like the pinks and blues of the rock and bg.

This is technically a very good photo Darren. Solid comp, great detailand clarity, well processed, great perch and pleasing coloration. The white patch in the BG is not ideal IMO (I wish it was green) but that is not a nit really. :toast:

A king surveying his land. Love the details, the pretty pink rock, and the pose is just wonderful. Sounds like in addition to a truly wonderful image you had a great experience as well. That's what its all about.

Hi Darren,

A very "stately" pose - and for this species, a very typical pose. Like many of the others I like that pink rock. Overall very nicely done!

My only minor "nit" here is the flattish lighting - which you could nothing about. I'm wondering if you could "compensate" a little for it by brightening up the marmot a little (and only a very little) to add a little more "pop" to the image. I'm thinking doing this to at least the head and neck region might make a positive difference. I'm only taking about 1/2 stop or so...no major adjustment...

Cheers...
