Low light II

Bald Eagle
Haliaeetus leucocephalus
Another low light photo. This time the Bald Eagle is still covered in the hoar frost from the night temps & fog. Again I purposely did not take any steps in post processing that would artificially alter the mood or light in this image.
We sat with this eagle for two hours on January 4th, not long before it took off the fog lifted. I have quite a few images of this bird in better light, but I wanted to share this one.
D200, lens resting on pickup window, f7.1, 1/400, ISO 400, 200-400mm VR with 1.4x TC at 400mm, ev +0.3 step, natural light, not baited. 94% of the original image. No NR or flash used.
As always, I sincerely appreciate your comments & critiques, thank you for looking.
I should have placed a 1 pixel wide dark line around the image for the larger version, I forgot it might blend in with the page color there.

But I think I'd play with the image in PS, first I'd try adding a little pop and see what that looks like, and then I'd try making this image even a little lighter to further enhance the bleakness.
Keith, it has probably been 12 months or more since I have used flash of any kind while taking a avian image, so in answer to your question, no I don't have any photos of this bird using fill flash. I do have images of the bird in brighter light, but by then the frost had started to melt.
Wayne, I would not want to add pop to this, it is a foggy image taken in low light. I think the bleakness that exists in the image accentuates the mood which is what I like most about it.

Excellent.

This is a unique Bald Eagle shot--I just commented on Ron B's post that an intense glare seems to be a constant with BAEAs, but here the bird's expression (accentuated by the downward tilt of the head and the fog) seems to be one of weariness in the obviously harsh conditions. The frost on the bird is just wonderful. I love this shot.
cheers
