The Beachcomber

When I went back the next day (from my previous post) to see if I could improve the composition, I expected this guy to be long gone. But in fact, he was only about a foot or so a way from where I left him... like he wanted to have his picture taken again. (Abalone Cove Shoreline Park, Palos Verdes, CA).

As always, any comments, suggestions or critiques are always welcomed.

Cheers!

~Eric

What a plethora of interesting textures, shapes, and colors! I like the placement of the starfish within the scene and the clarity is very nice.

Terrific abstract, Eric! I can see this becoming quite a popular spot! All the textures and patterns in the rocks combined with the tidal life is totally engaging to me.

Ooh, he moved to a better spot, very nice! In fact, he moved right into the spot I shot without him the day before

I really like the mix of textures and colors and the use of diagonal lines. The starfish and the patterned rocks make this one a real winner.

Beautiful array of shapes and colors, I'm really enjoying the shot. If anything, I might be inclined to shave some off the top, more of a 4X5 comp. :toast:

I like this better than your last post Eric. This brighter image with the dancing disco star fish is wonderful.

Beautiful! There seems to be several discrete stages presented here that are very distinct (pebbles, muscles (?), kelp, etc), and I love how the underlying patterns bring all of those stages together.

Coming back.. I think you might consider playing with the white balance - shifting it a little blue and green helps bring the variety of colors out just a bit more - as is everything seems just a little warm. Also perhaps try burning the starfish a little to help to counter act the glare. Anyways, very very cool, glad you went back!

this is very nice, eric. one can feel the freshness of the sea here. lots of detail all around and I like the textures a lot too. I feel the starfish could need some burning and the ulc too, minor issues though. this rocks, as is...

Thanks all for the commenting and the suggestions. Yeah, I've been meaning to ask Steve, if this is the same location he photographed his rocks. I just stumbled across them waiting for Floris to show up to do his tide pool images. I kind of hope they are different, for that would mean there is more interesting rocks to explore.

It gets kind of busy around the seastar, but overall the shapes, colors, and patterns make this work. Very nice.

I almost missed the starfish at first - there's so much going on! The colors are incredible - it makes me think of the inside of a jewelry box.
