Northern Cardinal

This beautiful male cardinal was at the edge of the woods near my yard. I shot at 5.6 to try and blur the background because of all the branches behind him.
Some sticks were still distracting so I cropped a good bit.

That dark grey background is perfect to show off the brilliant red colors of the Cardinal. I like the way the face is well lit, in spite of the strong side lighting on the left. The image seems to have held up nicely to the crop. :toast:

Really like the sidelight and the dark background. Gives the image some extra depth.

Janet,

I like the pose and how well the cardinal stands out from the dark background. If this were mine I would consider toning down the sunny side of the cardinal just a little bit, just below the crest the reds blow out a bit.

I like the head turn you got and the gentle curves of the branches in the image.
