Yellowstone in Winter

Taken in Yellowstone Park, I believe around the Norris Geyser Basin. This was a family trip, and this image was taken on the fly, but I liked how it turned out. I returned from another, purely photographic, trip last week and will be sharing some of those images later. Sorry I haven't been participating for a while - life's been crazy.

Canon 5dMII. 24-105 @ 40 mm. ISO 800. f/16. 1/30 sec. Handheld.

See LARGER VERSION for best detail. C&C appreciated.

doug, the composition here is outstanding. it all fits together extremely well. i'm a little uneasy about the sky (seems a little dull to me) and the haloing that i think i see with the trees on the left. but well seen on the fly ...!

The composition really looks nice here. The shot looks very natural to me - I like it.

I really like this scene with the fog rising from the pond. I agree with the sky: it looks a little bit dull. but that's minor for me. Otherise i like this shot. The colors looks so natural.

Beautifully composed winter scene Doug, dont know if that is mist rising from the water or blowing snow, ether way, love it.

Thank you, friends. Yes, the sky looks dull, because it was dull and overcast. The 'mist' is actually steam from geothermal activity, which I think offset the dull sky a bit and fit the mood. In the repost, I added a cooling filter to the sky - maybe that helps it a bit. I could crop down to show less sky, but it doesn't enhance the photo for me... I certainly welcome other opinions!
Stuart, I think what you see as haloing is actually frost on the trees - the image doesn't look oversharpened to me.

Good grief, Doug--whatever you did to the original post--reverse it!! I think the original was nearly perfect. It's a dull day--the sky's supposed to be dull here. Comp's a bit busy, but balanced and i like it. A cool shot. :wavey:

A bit complex, but the essential elements are coming through nicely. The left side feels a bit out of place for me. Not sure if cropping or darkening it might help.
