They certainly are sweet, Cheryl....and professional moochers too... Nice detailed image of this one. The perch is a bit large, especially since it conceals part of the bird. However, he's mostly visible. You could consider a vertical crop to remove the distractions on the RHS. However, he seems to be looking at whatever is at the right. So, it depends what you want to communicate. :toast:

You're getting lots of first Cheryl - I'm jealous! I like the mood of this image and the soft BG that makes the chickadee stand out. My temptation would be to crop a little more off the left and the top to minimize the bright and dark distractions above and to the left of the bird.

Nice capture and congrats on a first! The bg and size of the perch don't bother me. I do however see a slight halo around his head, and the toes on his left foot seem blurred. They are cute little fellas! Sharon

Cheryl,

Congrats on your first chickadee!

I like the bird's pose, the light it has in the eye and the various colors in the background.

Some of the whites towards the back of the head are hot, they probably weren't blown before sharpening, but sharpening can make whites blow out.

At first I wasn't sure about the comp, but the more I look at it the more I like it even though there are OOF features. It makes me feel like I am peering into this bird's world and none of the OOF features cross the bird's body which is my main focus of the image. I might consider a comp though taking a small amount off of all the sides to minimize the OOF items.

Cheryl,
congrats on your first Chickadee! I really like how the clear background brings the bird out.
If this were mine I'd try a vertical crop too. :wavey:

Like the way the bird 'pops' out from the rest of the picture Cheryl. I don't know whether I'd crop it a little more severely or not. I find the oof branches a little distracting but at the same time they add interest.

cheers

Cheryl:
I'm indecisive about the suggested crops, but definitely would repair the sharpening halo. Congrats on the new camera and all the associated "firsts".
