A White-throated sparrow during a light snowfall. I've been working on keeping my focus point on the eye, and am now feeling more comfortable with my new big lens (ie...I'm not so scared I'm gonna drop it anymore and my muscles are getting conditioned!!!).

50D, 500mm, Iso 200, F8, 1/200 LARGER version posted too.

Sharon, I like that we can see some snow falling, the background and the eye contact. I do wish for more light in the eye and perhaps more space on top. Your comment about being scared you'd drop the new lens made me smile - and really brought back memories about how I felt when I first got the same piece of glass. I think you'll soon reach the stage where you're not so nervous about it because what you need to do to safeguard it will become INSTINCTUAL over time. At least it did for me. (hope I don't break it tomorrow after saying that)

I like the snow Sharon and the great look at this sparrow. It would have been nice to see more detail in the eye and I might like a bit more room on top. I love the BG

Sharon,

I like the snowy feeling to this image and the hues of the background which makes the sparrow stand out well.

I may have bumped the ISO up some under these conditions to get a faster shutter speed with a touch more dof. I like the angle of the head and the bits of falling snow.

Sharon:
The focus seems to be on the eye/head area to me and there is very nice detail in that region of the bird. Mia's suggestion for increasing ISO a little would probably given you additional shutter speed and eliminated the slight motion blur of the bird's left leg.
I wish I had this nice of a shot of a WT Sparrow.

Wow, the details in the large version are amazing! I'm so far away from being able to afford big glass, this just makes me jealous.

The bird does seem a little too centered for me, but that's minor. I love the snow on the branch and the few flakes in the air - it suits this species perfectly.

I love the light on the head as well as the falling snow. I would love to have seen a bit more dof so the body and feet were more clear and you probably could push that Iso to 400 next time for more dof. I would play around with it . :toast: Great that you are loving your lens. I remeber how excited I was for my 300
