Plitvice - Panorama

by Andreas Resch

Gallery: LandscapePosted February 19, 2010503 views34 comments
Here's the only panorama from my trip to Plitvice. It's at the same place as my last shot, but you can see a little more of the first waterfall here. 8 vertical shots were used for this one which results in a total size of 16800x5500px.
Canon 5DMII, Zeiss VS 35-70mm, Polarizer, 0.6GND & 0.9GND. 2.2s-f/16-ISO50.

Thanks for all comments (on my last shot as well). Of course you need to look at the LARGER version here. You can find an even wider version at this location ...

I like this one alot. Looking at the last post I though something like this would be nice. I bet this would make a great large print!

This is pretty awesome! Very well done. A good idea to make a pano from this fall - it fits very well here. I bet this can look really impressive as a large print.

I think this comp is a lot more effective than your vertical version in both conveying a sense of the place as well as simply being better balanced and more visually appealing. The inclusion of the trees at the top adds depth and scale. Nicely done.

Awesome. Love the pano format here. There are so many interesting ice formations to look at and as you said the large version really sings.

I like the close-up pano that emphasize the ice texture. It's still a very busy image, thought the larger image makes it easy to appreciate the details.

Andreas,
this is in my opinion so far the strongest shot from this location. I't's awesome. Especially i love this close-up pano view of those waterfall and icicles. You still have this beautiful colored pool and it contrasts with the icicles. Those details are amazing in the larger version. Indeed a very good idea to make a pano here. Great work. Congrats.

comparing this with the previous post, I can better understand why you framed the vertical shot the way you did. the large brown chunks aren't too pretty, imo and I would say the pano could be 25% smaller without loosing much of interest. I wonder why there is no snow on these spots, maybe the water temperature warming the air?
its a good image, two things could make it even better: to crop it on the sides (especially the right) and maybe to let the viewer see a tiny bit more from the top. (snowy forest) - but then, of course, it wouldn't be a real pano anymore...

Amazing image Andreas. It´s very interesting and fun to look at the deatails on the large version, there are so much to enjoy.
I did a couple of panos of 5 verticals images of 21mpx from the 1Ds III, i didn´t proccessed yet and im wondering if a regular desktop computer can handle those 5 files togheter.
Do you export the raw´s as TIFF/16bits and then stich them in photoshop ?

@Ricardo ... yes - I exported the images in 16Bit ProPhoto format and combined the panorama in Photoshop CS4.

Stunning. It's 'busy' like an epic novel is busy, and all the better for it.

That is pretty darn cool. Not sure my feelings on the branches on the left side but they are unavoidable. Love the detail and colors :)

I love this shot too. These falls are so special! People usually photograph them in summer, but for me, when they are frozen, they look even more spectacular. Great capture, Andreas.
