My little friend

Lately my work doesn't allow me to leave the city to photograph.
Nearby I can find a couple of White Throated Dipper. These birds are very active and it's fun to watch them at work.
This shot was taken today in a cloudy afternoon.

40D 300+2TC
f7,1 1/400
ISO 400

Thanks for looking.
C&C are very welcome. :wavey:

Very nice, Monica. The U.S. dipper is quite drab; I really like the colors and patterns on other species. Interesting perch, too. Is it natural

I love this shot Monica. Great exposure for the light you had, and the BG is interesting.

Thank so much, Dan, Jim and Clayton.
Jim, the perch was in the middle of the stream. This is a creek on the outskirts of the city. It could be a piece of dyke that a flood has uprooted. :wavey:

Monica,

I wish I had a dipper so close to where I work. The colors here remind me of rich dark chocolate and fluffy whipped cream, very appealing.

Fine pose and setting, I noticed the interesting conglomerate type perch as well. This attractive bird is a nice find especially for an urban setting. No one else has commented on this but I think the dipper could be just a bit sharper, so maybe a bit more aggressive on the unsharp mask in ps. Hope your boss lets you get out of town to enjoy some more avian photography.

There are great things to photograph everywhere we look, if we really can see them.
Wonderful detail in the feathers here and nice pose!

Nice image, Monica. I like the slightly opened beak and the puffed out plumage. It looks like the whites are nicely under control. In the larger image, the eye seems slightly soft to me, like the focus was on the bird's body rather than the eye. Nice image. :toast:

Hi Monica,
I really like the open beak and the bg in this image. I agree that the eye and head don't look quite as sharp as the body. That could be from the focal point or a bit of movement on the bird's part. :toast:

Nice portrait of such a lovely little bird. The background is a bit distracting for me, but I like the ruffled slightly damp feathers.

a lovely ruffled dipper. I like that there is water behind it. I agree about a bit more sharpening.

I really like the detail, Monica. It's particularly interesting to me that such potentially drab coloration can look so pretty. :toast:

I like a lot this image : excellent comp, perfect timing of the subject raising plumage, and overall the many nuances of brown tones ( in BG so similar to the bird ).
