It must be getting close to spring time out here in the Pacific Northwest. I caught these two in the act at one of my local spots here a few days ago. This was photographed with my lens resting on my Prius window sill. It's cropped to about 55% of FF.

A very interesting behavioral shot. I've never seen birds "doing it" before and I 'm not sure I understand what is going on here. Are they actually having sex here or is this just some courtship behavior. I assume that is the male on top but I don't understand the technique in practice. Looks like one is giving a piggy back ride to the other. I learned about the birds and the bees but I guess I never learned about the birds and the birds.

No doudt about his intentions, but he does look like he's taking a break.Great focus across both birds and I like the matching highlights. The angle of light is excellent no shadow cast across female.Good habitat with little to distract from subjects. :toast:

well captured, Nate! Not exactly "doing it" right here, but that is certainly the intent. Come on, Spring! nice details and setting--I like the pebbles on the ground--and of course a great "pose."

Nate:
Unique shot with very nice light. I like the DOF providing a clear impression of the habitat.

Very interesting and very well captured, Nate. With those glassy eyed stares they don't seem to be paying much attention to you! :toast:

Almost looks like the Male Killdeer is just playing leapfrog. Great behavior shot and they certainly were not disturbed by your presence.

A little late commenting on this one Nate. Great capture. And hopefully a nice sign that spring is just around the corner. Excellent detail and I really like that you have them both looking in the same direction.
