Mt. Hood from the southeast.

Nikon D80
Nikon 12.0-24.0 mm f/4.0 at 24 mm
Hand Blend of 1/10, 1/3 (focused near), and 1/3 (focused far) sec at f/16 and ISO 100
The color and light are faithful to the scene, but I’ve bumped the saturation a tad up.

Beautiful colors and I like the lines in the snow which lead the eye up to the mountain. Well done.

Subtle and beautiful. Love the pink on white of my mountain! BTW my dad has climbed this like 50-60 times now. I think my first time up was in his backpack as a toddler with his camera!

Beautiful winter scene John, I like the texture/detail in the snow, helps pull the viewer in.

Sweet! To be real picky, i think Hood is the subject here, and would have preferred more of Hood filling the frame--the fg is nice with decent texture but somewhat empty. Neat shot regardless!

I love how the texture of the snow leads into the mountain. And the color is phenomal too. What is your blending technique? This is something I need to work on. Also, I can see the ski lift in the left side of the picture, so I don't know if this needs to go into the M&N forum.

Really great shot. The FG works for me with the texture and leading lines. Fantastic light.

Thanks all!

Mark, it's interesting you note that because when I returned to the van I spoke with a chap headed up the mountain. I was asking him about climbing the mountain because he too had done it many times. (For a friend, not me. I'm a true wimp at heart.) I really admire climbers.

Justin, I wrote up some of my blending technique in last month's NPN Magazine.

This is wonderfully delicate and dynamic at the same time. Lovely colours and i like the mount bang in the middle. I might have loved too another tiny detail in the foreground, maybe too in the middle, as a kind of juxtaposition? Did you compose something like that too? That would be another image anyway, This really rocks already. Well done!!

Very beautiful colors. I like how you used the simple line in the snow to guide the viewer into this image. The light is just fantastic.

What an awesome magenta glow! I think it's nice to have Mt. Hood fill a frame, but I really like this too. Nice texture and detail in the forground, and of course that color is very good.

Incredible light. The snow feels almost chameleon-like in the way it takes on the colors of the clouds.

Rafael, I passed over numerous compositions I would have preferred to get to this one, but they all had ski/snowboard tracks through them. This was the only place I could avoid them, and I had to get down against the snow to hide some that are in this scene too. I really need to go back after a fresh snowfall and shoot those other scenes!

Stuart, me too! I suppose I should just clone them out.

deep pink glow. great. the fence or whatever it is, is the only thing about the image I don't like.
