Gleason Beach

I have not been out shooting lately to show anything new. So I thought I would finally post this shot from New Year's Day 2009! I met up with Benjamin Glatt in the Armstrong Redwoods for an afternoon hike. Then over to the coast for sunset. I had never been on this beach before. There is actually not a trail down to it. You have to scurry down the side of the bluff to get there. I thought if I put this away for awile, it might improve with age, like wine!! I don't know if it did or not. But it took me a few sessions of processing at different intervals throughout last year to finally get it to this. I could never get the results I wanted and keep it clean. This is the best it has lookes so far to my eyes. it is not a blend, but a single exposure using a 3-stop reverse grad. I think that is why I have been frustrated with it. The highlites on the horizon are what they are, and I finally decided to accept it.

I hope you enjoy it, and thank you for your thoughts. large version included.

D200,
18-70mm,
15sec, F/16

Thanks,
Chris

This is excellent Chris. A beautiful image for sure. I really like the semi-pano format, and the comp seems to be very well thought out and well presented. Great color (realistic) too.

A beautiful pano Chris. The processing looks great, except that the foreground rocks seem a little to light for the lighting (that may be this work monitor though). Regardless, I like it a lot; it needs to be hanging large on a wall somewhere.

Nice image Chris. I like the mood created by the long exposure. Do you recall the name of the beach?

This looks pretty good, Chris. I really like the texture in the rocks and the soft colors elsewhere.

This is really nice, Chris. Great colors and comp, and I like the water motion. The top of the rocks appear a bit dark to me but that's minor. Well done.

Chris, I'm diggin' this shot. Get rid a bit of the darkening halo on the tops of the rocks and hit print ....

the highlites doen´t bother me at all here! colors are great and so are these textured rocks. I like the fg wave too and the "pano" look works nicely. well done, chris.

This is well worth the trip down the bluff, Chris. I really love the tranquil mood in this seascape along with the subtle tonalities of color in the sky and water. Beautifully done!

Very otherworldly, Chris! An almost abstract feeling to this image. Might be worth brightening the top of the rocks. It's up too you. I like as it is!

Moody is the word. Very nice the whole composition, lovely band of sand at the bottom giving stability and depth to the image. Great shapes, and great muted tones. Lovely.

Wonderful moody sky Chris with nice pastel colors. I also like the soft glow on the water especially the wave front as it mixes with the dark sand. Beautiful seascape.

A great shot with even greater potential.

My nits are that it is too small here, the shadow recovery is much too strong making it look unnatural, and there is edge haloing.

Fix those two things and it would go to another level that it deserves.
