I don't care how many times I see these little birds, I find that they are just too much fun to photograph.

Nikon D300 w/500mm f/4
1/125sec f/4 ISO 400
Tripod, Kirk King Cobra Head.
Working a feeder set up.

Edit: 03/11/10 - A bracket mounted sb-600 with a Better Beamer was used at about 1/4 power for fill.

Thanks for looking.

All round fine image Joel - exposure, plumage detail, perch, background all well done. The only impovement would be for a little more DOF to get the tail a bit more in focus.

I love the clean, uncluttered look of your image Joel. The comp. and pose make this artistic capture a winner, one of the best chickadee shots I've seen... very WELL DONE!

A great shot and a super comp. The bird is nice, but the two vertical elements (cattails?) really make this image sing for me along with the great BG. I would print and hang this one if it were mine. Very well done.

Thanks everyone for the comments, suggestions and kind words.

Ron,
you guessed the perch correctly, two cattails stuck into the end of an old tripod that I sat next to the feeder. Chickadees seem to like to perch first before getting to the food, so I thought I would use that to my advantage.
