that's life!! Shots of feeding animals always produce a double feeling: pity for the pray, and relief for the hunter. The chain of life is made by both preys and hunters, everybody has its own place, but everything is ruled by only one rule: survive. the only exception is the animal called man.

This female was chewing a two day before killed impala under the shade of a mopane before moving on one of its bigger branches (impala included).

Techs:
camera:D2Xs
lens: nikon 300mm f/4 + tc 1.7 II (500mm) @f/8 - 1/80 iso 200
metering: pattern
PP: camera raw -0,35 ev - CS3 Lights and contrast + TK's luminosity masks (first test)

Comments very appreciated

A very good natural history image and a good glimpse into their secretive world.
Hard to appreciate the large version though with such a dominant watermark.

Interesting shot, show some basic behavior. The huge watermark needs to be reduced IMHO. Thanks for sharing, must have been and exciting event for you.

That must be a tough piece of dried old meat he is working on Luca! I like the intensity captured. You did well to isolate the cat from the rather busy environment despite what I would expect at f/8.

I like the strong action and detail. The composition feels fine, but it might benefit with just a touch more space over the head and it is too bad about a couple of those out of focus sticks. You also achieved a nice low angle perspective. Where was this taken? Is it under a green foliage canopy? I sense a slight tint of green on the coat that could be environmental reflection. The effect is subtle and perhaps it is just the interpretation of my monitor. You could experiment with a selective adjustment of color on the cat and see if you can detect improvement.

Lon, she was under the shade of a mopane tree very close to some bushes. about the green reflection on the mantle yes i saw it too (or better my wife saw it my daltonism doesn't help me too much  ) the attached should be better. I have no room on the top, unfortunately but i absolutely agree with you.
