Sorting out my dragonflies and I came across many photographs of this one. I can get fairly close to a match, but was wondering if anyone knew this particular species? The abdomen is black and yellow and the thorax has that distinctive pattern. Not the greatest photo to id, but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jamie

Can't help at all with the ID, but it's a wonderful shot. Looks like he's smiling for his picture.

Jamie,
I have not been around much lately, so belated congrats on the weekly pick! Excellent angle and details, and cool perch.
ID: You have a nice shot of a female or immature male blue dasher that shows all the unique markings of this species (except for the green-eyed, blue-tailed mature male). The paired dorsal streak on both the thorox and abdomen are distinctive, even in this head-on shot. The eyes are a perfect match, too, and no other skimmers with a face like this one have those paired streaks.
