This guy was singing and displaying in good light with good BG so all I had to do was point and shoot. Photographed at White Rock lake park in Dallas, TX.

D200 with nikkor MF 300/2.8 and TC 14 with monopod

1/640 @ f11 ISO 400

Thanks for your comments and criticisms.

Robert,
I do like the singing pose of this bird. Very nice background and catch light. I can see how a veil that reduces the sharpness. Is it a big crop? :wavey:

Hi Robert,

You captured a very nice pose here, and the bird looks reasonably sharp. Overall I think it is an appealing image, however, to me, the colors appear a bit washed out. I think the image needs some more contrast. In addition there is some significant noise and lack of detail in the darker areas of the bird.

Hope this helps,

Robert,

It is a great pose and I like the open bill a lot. The image does seem a little flat though and the larger version shows noise in the bird's plumage and in the sky. If this was a large crop I might considering cropping looser. In the field I may have changed the aperture to around f8 to gain more shutter speed because when this species is singing like this they can change poses rather quickly.

Monica,

This is about 1/4 of the frame so it is a pretty big crop.

Great pose and nice clean background. Could use just a little contrast.

I'd go with a looser crop here to reduce the noise Robert, you also might decrease the exposure a little bit. It's worth the rework as it's a neat pose and will make for a nice comp with the branch coming in from the corner. :toast:

a classic singing pose, Robert. I agree with the suggestions regarding exposure, comp, noise.

An excellent singing pose Robert. I would try Mia's and Nate's suggestions.
