Latham's Snipe

Latham's Snipe photographed near Noosa, Queensland. A dirty morning, but the sun briefly peeped through the drizzle. Had the 2x on which disables normal autofocus, so used live-view autofocus - slow but precise - so long as subject stays fairly still.

Canon 7D, EF500 f/4 + 2x, tripod set low in water, angle-finder c, kwik-camo, ISO400, f/9, 1/1000. Cropped for composition 61% of original.

Fantastic Simon - love the low perspective and setting. Could you please train our snipe to come out in the open like this?

cheers

A great shot Simon, love the rain drops and the great low angle. Your exposure looks good and I like the comp. Great sharpness with the 500 + 2x. I will have to try the live-view focus technique some time. Well done.

Terrific image, Simon. The low angle, light and and great detail are super. Sounds like you really had to work for this one but it was worth it. :toast:

Everything's working here, and the bird is so well isolated here that it takes this image to the next level. I also love the moistness of his bill. Congratz on an excellent capture.

Nice low angle on this shot Simon. I like the included habitat and the bird looks really sharp dispite using the x2. Graham

Really nice Simon. At first I thought the OOF foreground was a bit of a bother but it's been overcome by the intimacy provided by the low angle and I certainly wouldn't want you to crop it away because it would then be too tight on the legs and feet down there in the muck somewhere. Maybe I shouldn't have sold my 2x...

Simon, the intimacy of this image draws me straight in then the bird and the setting make me want to stay there. Very well done.
