This Woody lives in the tree that used to house my favorite Eagle nest until it fell a few weeks ago (Eaglets are fine).

Eric, Nice details and comp. I know a slightly lower angle would prob. not be possible. Do wish for a slight head turn. Might desat. the red channel just a tiny bit if it were mine and I wish it were, nicely done.

Nice Eric. Sure is tough to get low angles on these guys, so the angle does not bother me. Overall a nice comp. The bird and perch tree look nice and sharp. The top of the crest comes across a bit hot, I am sure that is exactly how it looked given the clear skies this was shot in, but I might bring the brightness and saturation down a bit in that area. Also, in the larger version there is some color noise showing up on the bird's right wing, maybe from bringing up the shadows a bit too much. Just some observations. Overall a nice shot.

Great shot Eric, Love the detail in the blacks and whites. As mentioned, the crest looks a little hot here too. But love the comp and colors. :toast: :toast:

Eric, I like how the bump on the perch that the bird is clinging to helps to isolate the woodpecker from the tree and puts most of it against the sky DOF looks good to get both bird and perch sharp. I think I too would bring the reds down a bit if I could.

Aurgh! Eric. This is my favorite bird! I love the shot, great focus on the eye and great detail. I had one fly right in front of my car yesterday and light low in a tree just off the road. Just as I pulled out my camera it took off again. These guys are hard to catch. How did you do it?

Hi Eric,

I really like the pose of your pileated, the nice details in the old snag it is clinging to and how well it shows the grip the bird has on it. If this were mine I would tone down the reds though and see if I couldn't get more detail to show there.
