The Midsection

On Sunday, I went about halfway up the falls I posted earlier (frontal image). It was really overcast, but that helped with some of the water shots. This is the first of several from Sunday. Tried to keep a part of the stream below on the LHS just to add a little something.

D-60 at 15mm w/ ISO-100, 1/5th, and f-14 handheld w/ a tree as prop. This was my first time trying to shoot some nice water with this camera and a polarizer. Happy overall w/ the results, surely any C&C is welcomed!! Larger posted as well.

looks like a fantastic spot, I'd love to see an image of this in the summer.

I like the twin waterfalls and your choice of SS captures just the right amount of detail in the water, IMO. I can imagine the amount of green in this scene once the trees leaf out. While I like this shot, it somehow feels a little empty on the left, like it needs something to balance the falls. I can't quite put my finger on it, so I'm curious to see what others think.

Hi Bill,
Beautiful falls, nice angle. A very nice shot overall. As far as the technical aspects, it almost looks to me like the polarizer wasn't rotated enough? It looks like there are some pretty heavy reflections still on the pool below the falls that should be minimized by a polarizer. For now, a curve adjustment to increase contrast and darken the image just a tad should do.

I agree with Jeff, the shot feels unbalanced to me. The falls are clearly the item of most importance, and they feel left out on the extreme right side here. Looks like a cool location and the exposure looks good; a tripod might have helped with the focus although i think you may have focused a little too close here. Keep em coming!

Thank you all for the commenets and suggestions! First to Jeff and Stan, yes, I purposely did this comp to show the steep angle of the drop and the creek it runs into in the BG, to go along with the fallen log that is at a similar angle. I shot many others of just this section and the upper falls portion as well, which I will add later. As for the polarizer Joel, good point, not sure what happened as I can really see the difference in some of the other photos from the day. And finally, Stan I did have my tripod there and was using it to shoot above me. It's a very rocky and uneven area, so when I turned to my left to shoot this section, I just tried using the tree alongside me to brace the camera--I do agree it would be sharper with the tripod though. Again, thank you all!! :toast:

NIce shutter speed, good exposure, and I like the diagonal log as well as the greens mixed with the ice. Nice job.
