Hi,
I'm pretty new to wildlife photography but love this pic. Here I was in Spain Galicia where I encountered this female Iberian wolf looking at me. She remained very quiet and peaceful

Its a treat to watch a wolf image any day ! I quite like the fact that not all is revealed. However, would still like to see both eyes.

I love this one as well. The colors and mystery stand out as great. I wish you had stopped down more in order to get more of the excellent foreground in focus.

Absolutely agree on the eyes, big shame. And yes, the foreground is remarkable too. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Pieter,

Welcome to NPN, and to the Fauna Gallery in particular! I'm hoping this is only the first of many contributions (both images and comments) from you!

I like this image too. It nicely conveys the secretive nature of the subject and has a nice air of mystery to it. In this shot I'm totally OK with both the foreground being out-of-focus and that only one eye is visible (to me that further adds to "mysteriousness" of the image). The single biggest change that would elevate my appreciation of the image would be that the visible portions of the wolf, and particularly that eye, were sharper and thus grabbed MY eye a little more! But, this is the kind of shot where, between the foliage in front of the subject and the shadows where the wolf is located, focusing is very tough.

Overall, very well done and I'm looking forward to seeing future posts!

Cheers...

Brad

Hi Pieter and welcome to NPN! :wavey: I quite like the mysterious nature of this image as well. The fact that most of her is hidden and only that eye peeking at you is a strong ingredient for mystery! I have no problem with the fact that only one eye is visible, but like Brad said, if only it was more visible. Sharpness would not be the only issue, I think light is the more important one; what I mean is that the eye being shaded whilst the BG is bright inevitably makes that eye less prominent. That said this is still a nice image. By the way was this a wild wolf? I cannot imagine that wild wolves in Spain are a common sight, so if it is wild it makes the image even more special!
Looking forward to more of your work as well as comments in this gallery.

The partially hidden face makes for a strong sense of "story." Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing more of your posts and your reactions to the posts of others.

Brad and Vincent,
Thanks for the kind welcome. I'm absolutely amazed with this site and the enthousiasm amongst your members, I never new NPN existed and wished I'd known of its existance when I started thinking seriously about wildlife photography. I did come across NPN a couple of times but was scared away by having to pay. I remain Dutch (vincent will understand). Anyway, great site and well worth the investment (although I'm still on free trial but consider me converted.). This wolf lived in a Galician nature reserves and apparently is a common sight. We spotted it a number of times and this happened to be the best pic I took. I was shooting at continous mode and just blasted away, as I tend to do when I see impressive animals. The same happened two weeks ago in India when I was shooting tigers with a 24-105mm lens, didn't get a single shot worth posting. Either too blurry or no composition. Need to learn a lot of things, like staying cool and focussing but it's great to have experienced guys (and ladies) sharing comments. Thanks a lot, it's really priceless this forum.

hey Pieter

I like this a lot, its secretive and has an amusing feel to it. It would be good to get the other eye visible, but I don't mind that too much

While it's true that it'd be nice to have both eyes...I LOVE the surrounding vegetation in this photo as it seems very different from what you expect in wolf habitat, making the photo very unique.
