A female Cooper's Hawk takes a dip. I must have been no less than 9 or 10 feet from her when I took this.

Nikon D300, Nikkor 70-200mm
Exposure: 1/2500 sec
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 200 mm
ISO Speed: 250
Exposure Bias: -1/3 EV
Flash: No Flash
Edited in Adobe Lightroom 3 beta2

Wow Hal...9 or 10 feet?? That would have made me a happy camper! I like this very much. I think this is a very unusual capture and nicely done at that!

Not something you see everyday, is any type of raptor taking a bath. I'd like to see this posted at the minimum preferred 720 px across , or bigger if you have it Hal.

Another amazing behavior captured. If you are willing, re-post at the full 720 pixels on the long dimension; I'd really like to have a larger view. And my serious congratulations on getting this close to an accipiter.

Hal,

I'd like very much to see this posted at the 720 pixel size, it appears to have nice details and sharpness but as presented it is too small for me to judge that. The colors are lovely and the bahvior shown is great. I'd like to see more room on the left side of the frame to allow space for the tail even though it appears hidden.

Very cool shot Hal, I've never seen a hawk in the water like this before. You were in the right spot at the right time, congrats. Colors and exp. all look good.

Nice image! Could use just a little more room and a slight rotation.

Great shot Hal - nice light and head turn and i like all the dead leaves in the water. I've flushed accipiters from waterholes before but never with a camera. :toast:

cheers
