It's strange to me how an owl will sit even though you're poking a lens at it from close proximity. It just goes on searching the ground for a meal, and then if you speak it'll look at you.

Exceptional photo! I just was able to photograph my first Horn Owl in the past 3 weeks and you are right. If you talk to them they will look right at you. You must have been very close with a 300mm. The clarity is great! :toast: :toast: :toast:

Very nicely done Wayne! I wish we had this breed in my neck of the woods. Love the dark eyes.

Nice shot, Wayne. Excellent exposure and detail. You might want to think about positioning the owl just a bit lower in the frame. :toast:

A beautiful bird, and a beautiful shot of it. You got it tack sharp, and great detail in the eye as well.

Beautiful bird and photo. The larger view is even more impressive and makes me very envious.

Very nice Wayne. I like the comp and the great unobstructed look at this bird. I like the BG as it shows nice habitat. For the most part the exposure looks good, but there are a few bright spots on the bird, the perch tree and in the BG I would bring down a bit if this were mine. Just a suggestion to improve a fine image. Cheers.

The exposure on the bird looks perfect to me Wayne, really nice detail and an excellent image. There's one spot in the bg that looks a little bright right next to the tree but that's very minor here. :toast:

Wayne you did fantastic with getting one of these out in the open!! Great exposure on the bird, maybe just tone down the tad of bright down by its tail, but really just a small nit. Congrats!! :toast:

I like this image a lot. Very nice composition; great bird.

I agree with Ron B. about bringing down the exposure as he brightest parts are overexposed IMO. Assuming you took this as a NEF it should be easy to recover texture in the brightest areas in raw conversion.

I appreciate the feedback. And because there were, as was noted, a couple hotter-than-need-be spots, I reprocessed.

Wayne,

Of the owls I encountered in FL I found that the Barred Owls were probably the most accepting of human presence and would pose very nicely. Of the two versions posted I prefer the second version with the adjustments you made. Beautiful eyes, setting and pose. Great bird too!
