A Decade of Growth

Gallery: 10 Years of NPNPosted April 3, 2010968 views19 comments
Arch Angel Falls, Zion National Park

I posted an initial rendition of this image last November in the ES&S Gallery (here), which I had worked up on my notebook computer in a hotel room in Springdale, UT. I've been mulling over it and tweaking it since then, with the (soon to be realized) goal of having a large framed print hanging on my wall.

This composition truly exemplifies my growth as a photographer over the past ten years, due in no small part to all that I have learned here at NPN.

Here's to the next ten years! :toast:

Canon 5DII
Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II
17mm, f/22, 13 seconds, ISO 50, polarizer, .9 GND filter

In comparison, I took this photograph from the same location back in October 2000, about six months after NPN went online. Back then I was using a Canon EOS Elan and Kodak print film. I digitized this by scanning a 4x6 print on a flat bed scanner. Things have certainly changed since then, in many ways.

Cool, Jim! Thats an interesting comparison--the earlier shot certainly shows the beauty of this special place, but your new post really shows the magic. Thanks for sharing!

Gorgeous image! It's great to hear how resources like these forums can help you develop as a photographer. I've had the same experience and know exactly what you mean. Cheers.

Jim,
Thanks for the comparison. Ten years may not change the landscape that much, but our ability to see develop new ways of seeing it is amazing.

I've always liked Zion NP. This reinforces my desire to frequently return there.
This would make an outstanding print/poster.
