Nice capture Michael! My wife and I witnessed a breeding pair last year on the Otter Creek in VT, it's very exciting indeed. Congrats :toast:

Great action, Michael. You really caught the moment here. With the sky for a bg, you might try going for more dof on these shots-the upper bird seems just a tiny bit soft. :toast:

Very nice capture of some great action. I also see the upper bird is a bit soft, but that's quite minor.

Killer shot!!! Sharp detail, great - ahem - action, and super angle to get both faces and bodies.

I'm curious about the gray piece of wood on the right - looks as if they might have brought in a man-made piece of scrap wood? Looks too angular and sharp for something in nature. interesting!

You name it osprey use it to build a nest. This nest is atop a utility pole type structure. When reestablishing them many nesting towers were built. They are less prone to failure than nests built in trees and what not. Over time these pack rats of the sky build nests weighing several hundred pounds. You name it they will include it in the nest. One report is that one stole a farmers jacket and to the nest it went.

This has all the makings of a great nature image with drama and story. The eyes look to me a little unnatural and I wonder if you have over-sharpened. The smaller twig in front of the bird could be easily cloned out and to me that would be an improvement. Terrific stuff!

Mike, I like the action you captured here. Your exposure looks good and I know what you mean about ospreys using everything and anything in their nest construction. My only wish for this image would be for the top bird to be a bit sharper in the face area. Overall, very nice.

Wonderful moment you captured here Michael, the front bird looks tack sharp, the back bird not as much. My guess is it's from not enough depth of field as it looks like your shutter speed would have been sufficient. That camera body should do really well at 400 iso so bumping up your iso and f-stop probably would have improved this. :toast:

Michael what a great action shot you have!!! It looks like you had nice light so I would agree with Nate on the iso and aperture, but other than that one nit, well done. Big congrats! :toast:

Michael,

Great behavior, nice light, details, colors and interesting poses of the Ospreys. I agree with what other have said about the top bird being slightly soft and I also believe that is a dof issue. I'd be very happy to have gotten this shot.
