Puerto Escondido Sunrise

Sunrise light on the rocky beach in Mexico. I'm on vacation visiting family but can't help but take a few images early in the morning. This was processed on my cheap laptop screen out in the sunlight, so I'm sure the processing is not good. I'm guessing it is dark, over contrasty and the exposure blending is blotchy. I'll re-work it when I get back to the office. Just figured I'd share since I'm on the computer while everyone else is taking an afternoon siesta.

I love the light on that FG rock! the darkness of the most of the rocks is somewhat bothersome but, as you said, you will rework.

Rick - You are right. I completely spaced that the lighthouse is in this shot. Powers that be, feel free to place this as you see fit. :-)

Nice. Im guessing you used a grad nd, from the darkness of the rocks near the top? If you can lighten that up a bit I think its a great image!

Well, for being a cheap laptop, it did an amazing job in your hands! Wonderful scene Sean, perfectly balanced and with tons of mood. I love how the rocks in the fg catch the light, and the shutter speed is just perfect for the waves action.

Processing looks fine, Sean. This almost looks like a fountain with a series of pools. Really a good comp to go with the light.

Sean,

Beautiful seascape. I love the metallic, copper looking light on the foreground rock. Comp is excellent. I think because of what looks like a grad over the top and the blend, I would work the brightness blend of the rocks near the top left as it does look much darker relative to the rest of the scene.

Ok, Rick is right... one of the mods is going to go ahead and move this to Man & Nature. While the lighthouse isn't a major element, it's fairly obvious and we do our best to be occasionally consistent... :-) Hope you understand and feel free to drop a note if you have any questions.

I think it's pretty darn great as is Sean. I love the water everywhere - the spray, wash down the rocks, and ocean. The light on the rocks is great. The top 1/4 or so of the rocky areas seems too dark, but I'm guessing that can be changed... Great one!

I think this is a wonderful composition in wonderful light, whether or not you tweak the shadow detail! This will have broad appeal.
