Breifly Bryce

In July 2008 as I was recovering from hernia surgery I decided I was feeling good enough to venture out to Bryce Canyon. Long drive from Long Beach California. I was only in Bryce at one overlook for 2 to 3 hours when I started to feel weak, nauseous and not altogether well. I reasoned I was succumbing to altitude sickness and returned to Cedar City. Although I was only in Bryce briefly it was worth it and hope to return. In May 09 at the Wawona Tunnel View NPN was recommended by two photographers as a good website to belong to. I was very impressed and joined NPN in June 09. So I have only briefly been a member hence the Bryce post. Jim, Donna, the NPN staff and moderators deserve great praise and accolades for the professional and educational Online magazine, galleries and forums they present. I have learned so much and appreciate many of the fellow photgraphers who have been so kind as to gently prod me in the direction of being a better all around artist in photography. Looking forward to the next 10 years.

Thank you all,

Paul

Fantastic sky Paul with wonderful radiating clouds! Bryce is a favorite of mine in the Southwest. Excellent light in the mid ground too.

Very pretty Paul - this image really shows off the grandeur and vastness of the scene quite well. What a sky too!

Paul, I echo your praise on this website and it's staff. It's great to have a place to ask questions and get productive advice. As far as your photo, it's one of the best photographs of Bryce I have seen. The sky is wonderful and you did a nice job with the exposure, handling the shaded areas along with the area in the direct sun light. I like the tree that frames the right side of the image but again I believe the sky turns this nice photograph into a great one. Well done.

For such a short visit at that time of year and that time of day (late afternoon?), you were fortunate at least to have relatively good shooting conditions. The clouds and subdued light help to make this an appealing composition. The elevation at Bryce can easily affect most healthy lowlanders, let alone someone recovering from major surgery.

Paul, the real strength in this image has got to be this powerful cloud structure throughout. The entire upper layer is just wonderful.

I share your convictions concerning the great work that NPN does.
I joined about a year and half ago and have never regretted it.

I've been to Bryce often but have never seen a sky like this.
Well composed and a great capture, Paul.
