Fenced Out

This is the local new born Sand Hill Crane. The baby was born inside the fenced in retention pond and every night the family finds it's way out through the smallest opening at the gate door to feed and wonder around. Consequently they also need to find there way back in every night for night night on the nest. Darn if they don't pace that whole fence line for an hour at least till they figure out where that opening is again.I watched from afar last night behind a bush for at least an hour as they tried to find the opening which they have to squeeze through except the little baby of course. Finally ... they were in again. nature amazes me  I liked the vague sundown light in this and was curious as to what you all thought. I don't normally like fences or "human things" in my pics but this one has meaning.

What a forlorn little fellow, Cheryl! Without evident wings or a tail he almost looks like an armless human. I find the image interesting and well captured....but slightly disturbing. :toast:

that is one cute chick, Cheryl. I normally wouldn't really go for a shot with a fence in it like this, but your story helps me understand what's happening.

He looks very sad and "lost". I'm glad his family can find him every night. Does he not get food during the day then?
Nice image..

Cool to get your input. I too find it disturbing a bit as well I think as any fence with an animal in the sameimage causes that. Sandy they get out allday and eat then come back in at night. His parents are really very close by also trying to get in

It's true Cheryl, a fence gives often a sense of discomfort but here there is an interesting story and a nice capture. :wavey:

a very strong image. I love how you included a lot of fence around this little fellow.
