Bosque Mist

This is certainly one of my favorites from the past 10 years. Back in 2006, it was selected as the Avian image of the year. I was truly humbled to receive that honor with the incredible Avian images that are posted on NPN every year.

Sunrise at Bosque Del Apache NWR. It was a cold morning and a fairly humid morning as well. The foreground of the image is ice. The "steam" rising around the snow geese created this surreal look as they broke through the thin layer of ice. As the sun came over the horizon, the sky turned this incredible orange. The silhouetted flying goose on the left is the result of other geese between the sun and that goose.

No Filters, just some incredible light.

Thanks for looking

I remember this image, and with good reason - it's very striking and evokes a strong visual response. Absolutely beautiful, and well deserving of the honor.

Keith, I definitely recall this amazing image and seeing all the interaction with the geese in this scene. Typically we do not see a tremendous amount of work from this location in NM, but wonderful images such as this this would surely have to elevate it's notoriety.
