Great Gray Owl in snow

Gallery: 10 Years of NPNPosted April 11, 2010387 views16 comments
Ok, this is an old one that I was thrilled to have picked as Avian Image of the Year I think the very first year of NPN or close to it. I made this image a few years before the great invasion of these guys a few years back.

I have fond memories of the early days of NPN. I haven't posted in a long time here or anywhere other than my personal site but am always lurking around reading posts and once in a while looking at the galleries. It's almost scary to see the quality of images being posted in recent years! Congrats to Jim and all the moderators at NPN for 10 years of just plain old great stuff!

Tech stuff... Canon 1V, 600 f4, 1.4x (I think) Provia pushed 2 stops (I told you it's old! )

No lures, food or calls used for this image for those that care.

Best, Jim Zipp

Wow, that's a fantastic shot. I love the blueness of the background. It really makes the snow, bird and perch stand out. :toast:

This is superb Jim - certainly deserving of the yearly pick! The snow adds so much to this too. Great shot.

I see people have already used the adjectives that came to my mind when viewing this shot. This is the best. Suggestion - I would crop the little bit of bark/twig on the end of that pine needle on the bottom left - but thats minor. Congrats Jim. :wavey:
