Chukar

The wild Chukars around the Great Salt Lake are fighting and calling from their rocky perches again - a sure (and very welcome) sign of spring. And it's about time - it's been so dreary around here for weeks that I've been able to do very little shooting.

7D, 1/1250, f/8, ISO 500, 500 f/4, 1.4 tc, shot from pickup window on 4-8-10, cropped to 70% of original image, slight curves adjustment to the rock perch, selective sharpening to bird and perch, no other processing, natural light.

Comments/critique appreciated

Terrific! This is gorgeous, especially mid-call. :toast:

Had 2 more trips out your way over the last couple of months, but alas, all meetings, no time to bird! Next time, I'll be sure to MAKE time!

Oh, is it Spring already? Fantastic, Ron. Sharp as can be and what detail, especially in the large version. You must've been pretty close to this one. :toast: :toast:

Very nice Ron. Love the calling pose, light, sharpness, BG, and rock perch. Chukar's really are wonderful looking birds and your image here really shows that to it full advantage.

Beautiful Ron, nicely positioned. I have been looking for this bird for months, finally found 4 downtown Driggs.

Terrific shot, Ron. Excellent work getting this close. Great techs, pose and sharpness. The ones around Boise are extremely spooky; I could never get thisclose.

Excellent detail in the larger version, what a striking and colorful bird that I have only seen once before when up at Kodachrome State park in Utah. Well done.
