Elk and Rainbow

Last spring I was able to spend some quality time with several bull elk. As I photographed, a fast moving thunderstorm past nearby. Knowing a rainbow might happen I gradually worked my way around the bulls to get into a better position just in case. Well, the rainbow happened and it was more intense than I could imagine. This bull was foraging toward me, I swithched to my small zoom lens and waited (and waited) for him to raise his head.

I very much appreciate all comments and suggetions.

Canon 40D, 17-85mm @20mm, ISO 640, f11, handheld and braced on my knees.

What a wonderful and unique image! I particularly like how the rainbow does not intersect the trees. Well done!

Great image, Ken. I know we take what presents itself. If I could set it up I would have fewer dead trees. As I said IF!! A very nice photo :wavey:

Excellent shot! I can't find anything to criticize. Where was this taken? :toast:

Very cool. The elk looking up really makes the shot. Your patience payed off.

Gorgeous animalscape Ken! Although small in the frame, the presence of the Elk makes this so much stronger than it would be without. The big broken tree trunk in the center is a bit unfortunate IMO and ruins the harmony a bit. However, that is minor and I am very well aware that this was totally beyond your control. You did very well in a situation one cannot orchestrate. :toast:

Cool capture. If you could have caught him at the end of the rainbow with a clean background, what a pot of gold you would have found!
