Roosterville Deluxe

About a mile and a half down one side of Waimea Canyon a ways below the 'Nature Loop'. This is an amazing place. I could have spent a month here. My wife and I got married on Ke'e Beach just last month, and she was patient and adventurous enough to go exploring with me in some of the less seen areas. We ran into 2 couples that entire afternoon. And lots of goats as well. I hope to go back some time and backpack the entire canyon, it's absolutely amazing.

By the way the orange in the trees are actually flowers! The smell was amazing. For anyone who has visited this enchanting location, you know why I titled this Roosterville. ;]

I have a daytime version I'll post sometime. Thanks for looking!

2 image manual blend (cs4), 1dsm3, 16-35. Toned down the purples a bit. There is a bit of blur in some of the foreground foliage as it was quite windy. I choose to keep it this way as blending a higher ISO image into such a complex mix of plants would have not been worth the time on this one.

Definitely a beautiful capture and lovely composition. I love the pastel in the clouds.

I was just going to ask what the orange trees were when I read your line. Awesome! It's too bad you couldn't get a bit closer to them; I'd love to see them be a larger part of the photo and just cut out that foreground. The vegetation and sky are awesome.

Nicolaus,

Most certainly a beautiful landscape, but really hard to appreciate at this web size. A larger version I'm sure is killer.

Great sky - I might almost be willing to give up some foreground soil for more beautiful sky, but this works well compositionally. Nice colors throughout.

Beautiful image, although I love the symmetry between the foreground and wispy clouds I'm wondering if you happened to take any with a different foreground, I'd love to see one of those  Fantastic work.

Awesome capture ! Definitely very nice place to be and you have captured it beautifully. Can I just ask about that blend of two images - was it for exposure or sharpness ? Thank you wish you all the best !

Thanks for the comments and critiques.

As for the composition. I do have a few others, but the foreground from this spot is more or less the same. It was windy, and I did not want too much foliage in the front as it would have been a pain to blend with a higher ISO image with as much variety as this location had. This led me to stick with the dirt foreground, and I was hoping for clouds that matched. I got lucky. I still have not gone through the 5dm2 photos my wife took, so she may have a better comps.
I also have another shot from higher on the ridge (earlier that week) where I actually used the wind to my benefit in making this poofy plant looking thing. It's sort of sweet.

Lon, there is quite a bit of detail in the larger version. ;]

Pavel, the blend was done because I was using a cpl that did not have any threading on it, and I completely suck at hand holding GND filters. So, one for the sky, one for the rest.
