Yellow-rumped warbler

I have been getting pretty serious about bird photography this spring and I am now seeing many birds that I never really noticed before.
This is the first time I have ever photographed warblers of any kind and I have gained an appreciation of how difficult it is to get good photos of these little guys. They seem to be constantly flitting around and never stay in one place for very long never giving me enough time to focus with my old manual focus lens before they jump to a new perch. They also seem to know just how far away to stay to keep me from getting close enough for a decent shot and they don't seem to come out in the open very much. After many attempts this is the best I have gotten so far. I am pretty happy with this one but I hope to do better in the future.

Robert, Nice to see you getting serious about bird photography. It's a great addiction. First I'd like to say that if you can avoid a steep angle that would be best. Also the OOF branch that covers the tail is a bit distracting. You did a good job isolating the bird through all those branches. Good luck and I'm looking forward to more from you.

Your description and shot show the difficulty of warbler photography quite well Robert. This is nice but the oof fg branches are a bit distracting. :toast:

Warblers are probably not the easiest birds to photograph either RObert...especially with a manual focus lens. Denise has provided some terrific advice. Look at her website...she knows what shes talking about! Look forward to seeing more form you.

Hey Robert, warbler photography is tough enough with AF! can't imagine trying to focus on these little guys who never hold still. You did a good job getting a relatively unobstructed view, though I do wish there weren't those oof branches in front of the bird.

Bravo, Robert! You got a very nice capture of these difficult subjects, in particular focusing manually. Keep on shooting! :wavey:

Good details, I fully commensurate on the difficulty..
Getting these little suckers out in the open AND close enough for the details you're after is a challenge.
Good basic comp and a fairly clear view of the bird, well done.
Thank you for your comments, you know I appreciate them :wavey:
