Pine Siskin

I've just restarted doing some bird pictures. Here's a Pine Siskin that visits the feeder. I use a 400mm lens on a Canon 40D. I simply like the precise form of the feathers. Cropped. And, yes, I'm still dreaming of longer lenses. Thanks for any comments.

Nice view of the back of this bird. Maybe just a little tight around the tail area with this crop, and I'm seeing a lot of noise in the green bg. Some noise reduction in those areas would help. Your exposure is very good and I like the amount of detail you have all over the bird. Sharon

I agree with Sharon on the noise. The tight crop under the tail doesn't really bother me though.

Thanks all for the c/c. Of course, the Pine Siskin is not the most dramatic bird, but I have them out the back door. BG Grain: well, if there is bg grain, wouldn't there be foreground grain also? And how does one alter grain selectively? My real problem is not having a lens that gets me closer to full frame. And, I wonder if the Canon D5 MkII would give a better blow up image than 40D even thought the subject is much smaller in the frame??
I might go for a lens extender. Tim
