Pied-billed Grebe

Canon 7D, 500mm f/4 + 1.4x TC, monopod, sitting.

1/1250, f/7.1, ISO 500

Crop to 61% (11 of 18MP)

This is from the same morning as the Black-Hawk at the Page Springs Fish Hatchery along Oak Creek below Sedona. In this case, I think the overcast helped provide some even and mild light, which helped with the exposure and not blowing out the bill. I like the pose and detail here. A lower angle would have been even better, but the hatchery pond had pretty steep sides so I was stuck on the top.

Comments and critiques appreciated. Please view larger version if possible.

Very nice with wonderful details and soft lighting. It needs a small CCW rotation though

This is really good, Brian. A lower angle would be the only improvement. You're just gonna have to find a way. Don't you have any waders? :toast:

Great shot Brian. The angle looks plenty low to me. Wish I could get this close, the exposure is spot on and details are amazing. :jump:

This is one of my favorite birds for the cuteness factor, and your image really plays it up. Wonderful detail, especially around the head- the beak, eye.

Breeding plumage and a good reflection. I think if you had a lower perspective you would not have achieved the same effect and angle for the reflection. This is just right and your techs are great.
