American Toad #3
by Jerry Marella
I like the reflection in this image as well as the egg strings cloging the water and stuck to the reeds. This is one of several toads that had what looks like blood spots on their vocal sack. Not sure if that's a normal occurance, or just from the stress of constantly inflating it. I think the lighter reed that the toad is sitting on adds some direction and structure to the image, but I'm not sure about the vegitation in the BG. It looks a little chaotic to me. I'm interested to hear what other opinions are.
EOS 1D, 300 2.8w/25mm tube, ISO 250, 1/200 @f11, camera at ground level. Cloned dust spots. Small crop from L and top.
Thanks.

3 commentsWell-timed and well-executed. My thoughts on the image aren't too different from your's. The reflection works well for me and I like the positioning of the main subject in the frame. I'm not sure the lightness of the reed the frog is on helps me much (in a perfect world I prefer it to be darker, like the one just under the inflated sac). The background could be a little cleaner, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it chaotic - maybe mildly distracting (at worst).
Cheers...thanks for sharing this...
