A wonderful Wyoming sunset in a secluded awesomified location.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, f/20 @ 19 mm, 2.5s, ISO 100 (main exposure), then 2 other exposures stepped down for the sky and up for some of the shadows.

Please have a look at the edited image below and let me know which you prefer.

Thanks for looking.

Just amazing, Nicolaus. The comp is flawless. The neutral tones and the sky seem to be a little one the green/cyan side. Maybe this is intentional but looks a little strange to my eyes.

Thanks Andreas. I'm not sure about the green/cyan. Using the lightroom eyedropper I'm getting RGBs all within a couple of points of each other at all times in the neutrals on the rocks. The blues and greens are about 1 or 2 points on average above the reds...so I suppose it is leaning a bit that way, but is it that bad? Does anyone else notice this as well?

Hi! A good way to check for color shifts is to measure the color in Lab mode. Measuring on the rocks results in a -3 to -7 in the "a" channel which means that it's on the green side. It's also in the minus range of the "b" channel, but that's fine. Overall it's just about perception.

Thanks for the advice, Andreas, I have learned something new!

Ok, slight edit...I would like to know which is better.

Thank you.

Second looks a little better. I like the warmer tones. I can't get over how there is a dry creek bed running through there. It breaks the image up nicely. Good work.

Fine composition and an outstanding sunset.
Foreground looks a bit bright to be during the evening sunset, though.
I also prefer the second version.
Is this somwhere in Hell's Half Acre?

Fantastic scene Nicolaus, I like the 2nd version better. I'd crop some off the sky and the bottom where the lead in line is. :toast:

great comp and colors - I think I prefer the first version, don't see the cyan/green shift on my monitor at all

I'm glad you shared these images from this amazing location. It's also refreshing to see images from less frequently photographed locations. You came away with another winner in this shot. The light and composition here are great. I think I like the slightly warmer tones in the repost.

Fascinating shapes and light, Nico. Almost feels surreal.

It's the second image for me Nicolaus, seems to have a bit more punch. I really like the subdued lighting.

Gary.
