Common Green Darner

This is a slight departure for me - i typically try to find a more isolated subject. Taken on Hatteras Island in NC about a week ago. If I had my flash and softbox I probably would have used it. D700, 180/3.5 @ f/9, manual, ISO 320, 1/125 sec., full frame.

Whoa! Excellent! The colors and details are spot on. The perch puts this over the top. Well done: :toast: :toast:

Excellent exposure. I would love to see the detail pop out in a larger image. Great soft bg bokeh and the pine needles make an excellent container for the dragonfly. It does look a bit soft, but I strongly suspect, given your setup, that the "softness" is due solely to the resize. :toast:

Very good work. I particularly like how the colors of the dragonfly are similar to those in the rest of the scene.

This is very nice. The high contrast and limited color palette works very well. My limited experience with green darners has found them perching in places where it's difficult to separate them from the background.

Thank you all. Yes Charles - Green Darners like to hunker down deep for torpor. This particular tree had numerous darners on it. Based on the wing sheen, they probably hatched the previous day.
